How it turns

You feel the weight from the very first turn. The layers have more inertia than in lightweight cubes, so the cube feels calmer and sits more "settled" in your hands. During fast turning at high TPS, the weight gets in the way: your fingers tire more quickly, and the cube responds less readily to short, light moves. This is not a cube for breaking records. With no magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own, so you need to finish each turn more precisely.

How is it different from a regular 3x3?

The mechanism is a classic 3x3 cube without the adjustment systems found in speedcubing models, so there is no MagLev, no Ball-Core and no compression adjustment. The Alloy's strength lies elsewhere: in its looks and how it feels in your hand. The metallic pieces look completely different from regular stickerless plastic, and the heavy weight makes the cube feel solid and substantial. ShengShou also offers a 2x2 version in this series.

For collectors, people who enjoy unusual cubes, and cubers who want something different for casual solving. It also makes a good gift for someone who can already solve a cube and has a regular 3x3 at home.
