SengSo Crazy 5x5 V1

SengSo Crazy 5x5 V1 is a puzzle from ShengShou. Mechanically it is a regular 5x5 cube, but each face has a circle cut into its centre. The pieces inside the circle do not turn together with the face, so you solve it a bit differently from a classic 5x5. V1 is the first of four versions in the Crazy 5x5 series. It comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme and has no magnets.

What makes it "crazy"

On a regular 5x5, the centres belong to their faces and turn together with them. Here, part of the centre of each face behaves differently, so knowing a 5x5 method is no longer enough. You have to track the position of the pieces inside the circle and check how their arrangement changes relative to the rest of the face. If you already know reduction on the 5x5, this puzzle gives you a new problem to crack on a familiar design.

How V1 differs from V2, V3 and V4

The versions in the series differ mainly in the number of pieces inside the circle on each face:

• V1: 4 pieces in the circle
• V2: 9 pieces
• V3: 21 pieces
• V4: 24 pieces

The more pieces there are in the circle, the further the puzzle moves away from a regular 5x5 and the more thinking it takes. V1 changes the classic cube the least, which makes it the easiest way to start the Crazy 5x5 series or crazy-type puzzles in general.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a 5x5 and is looking for something different from yet another speedcube. This is a puzzle for relaxed solving, not for timed solves: the lack of magnets and the unusual design are not built for high TPS. If your child is only just learning to solve their first cube, it is better to start with a regular 3x3 and come back to the Crazy series later.
