SengSo Gigaminx V3 M is the magnetic version of the third-generation Gigaminx from ShengShou (SengSo is this manufacturer's brand). A Gigaminx is a dodecahedron with five layers on every face, in other words a "5x5 megaminx". This model is smaller than classic Gigaminxes: according to distributors, each face measures 35 mm. The letter M in the name stands for the magnetic version. The puzzle comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

A smaller Gigaminx, shorter moves

With a puzzle that has twelve faces and hundreds of pieces, size matters a lot. On a smaller body your fingers travel a shorter distance with every turn, and your hands get less tired during long solves. The manufacturer has also hollowed out the pieces to reduce weight. The internals are built around a one-piece core with twelve holes, and the snap-on center caps hold the neighbouring pieces in place. This design is meant to keep the puzzle from popping during faster turning.

What the magnets in the M version give you

According to distributors, the M version has 240 magnets. On a Gigaminx they are even more useful than on a regular cube. The layers pull themselves into the right position, so you need to correct a misaligned face less often and the risk of lockups on the next move is lower. This gives the puzzle a more "clicky", predictable feel. If you prefer lighter turning without the resistance of magnets, you can choose the non-magnetic version. It has the same mechanism and is cheaper.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with screws and springs in the core. Tightened more, the Gigaminx is more stable; loosened, it is faster and looser. You reach the screws through the removable center caps.

Who is it for?

For anyone who already knows the Megaminx and wants to try a bigger puzzle of this shape, and for cubers who solve the Gigaminx for time and want a magnetic model in a compact size. A full solve takes noticeably longer than a Megaminx solve and requires knowing the Megaminx method. As a first puzzle for a child, a regular 3x3 cube or a Megaminx is a better choice.
