SengSo Magic Column II is a shape mod puzzle from ShengShou. SengSo is the brand under which ShengShou sells its puzzles. You may also find the same model under the names Magic Column Cube II, Magic Column v2 or Q-Platypus V2, as its distinctive shape has earned it the nickname "platypus". This version is stickerless in bright colours, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

How it differs from a regular cube

With shape mods, you have to deal with the shape as well as the colours. Once scrambled, the pieces come in different sizes and forms, so the puzzle loses its regular look and you first need to restore its original silhouette. It solves differently from a classic 3x3 cube, and for many people that is exactly the fun of it. The Magic Column II looks more intimidating than it really is. It makes a great first puzzle outside the official WCA events.

Version II vs. the original Magic Column

The second version has more layers than the original Magic Column, so it is more than just a refresh of the same model. More layers mean more possible moves and, as a result, a slightly bigger challenge. If you already own the first version, you will get a new puzzle here, not a copy of it.

Who is it for?

For people who can solve a 3x3 and are looking for a change from standard cubes, as well as for collectors of unusual ShengShou puzzles. It also makes a good gift for a child who can already handle a 3x3 cube and wants something new. This is not a puzzle for timed speedcubing.
