SengSo Master Kilominx by ShengShou is a dodecahedron-shaped puzzle from the Megaminx family. A regular Kilominx is the equivalent of a 2x2 cube, while the Master Kilominx is its four-layer version, so it's essentially a 4x4 cube in the shape of a dodecahedron. This version is stickerless in bright colors, so the colors are in the plastic itself and there are no stickers to wear off or peel.

How it differs from the Megaminx and the regular Kilominx

The Kilominx has only corners and is solved much like a 2x2. The Master Kilominx, just like a 4x4 cube, has no fixed centers. First you need to build the centers on each of the twelve faces and pair up the edges, and only then do you solve the puzzle like a Megaminx. Parity can also occur, so besides Megaminx algorithms it helps to know the reduction method from the 4x4. The ShengShou series also includes bigger models: the Elite Kilominx and the 8x8 Kilominx.

How it turns

The puzzle comes factory lubed and turns smoothly right out of the box. According to user reviews, there may be too much lube at first, but a short break-in period or wiping the pieces is enough to sort it out. Popping is rare. With so many pieces, some catching can occur, especially when the layers aren't aligned precisely. This model has no magnets and no adjustment system, so you won't get the stability or customization known from flagship 3x3 cubes. ShengShou also offers a magnetic version of the Master Kilominx, but that's a different product.

Who is it for?

The Master Kilominx is a great next step if you can already solve the Megaminx and the 4x4 cube and want to combine those skills. It's also a nice addition to a minx-type puzzle collection, as the stickerless version looks great on a shelf. It's too difficult as a child's first puzzle – it's better to start with a 3x3 cube or a regular Megaminx.
