SengSo Mirror Crazy 3x3

This puzzle combines two ideas: the mirror cube and the Crazy 3x3. The SengSo Mirror Crazy 3x3 by ShengShou has a 3x3 mechanism, but all the pieces are the same colour and differ in thickness. Colour gives you no hints here, so you solve the cube by shape. Each face also has a circular cut. This creates extra pieces around the centre, so once scrambled, there is more to keep track of than in a regular Mirror Cube.

How is it different from a regular Mirror 3x3?

In a classic mirror cube, you just match the heights of the pieces until the cube returns to its cuboid shape. Mechanically, it is still a regular 3x3. In the Crazy version, you also have to solve the pieces inside the circles. The cube can look solved from the outside while the circles on the faces are still scrambled. If you already know the standard mirror cube, you get a new problem to figure out here, not the same puzzle in a different colour.

Who is it for?

This cube is a puzzle, not a speedcubing tool. It is a good choice if you can already solve a 3x3 and enjoy unusual modifications, and it will also appeal to collectors of mirror-type puzzles. For a first cube, or for a child who is just learning to solve, a regular 3x3 or the basic Mirror version is a better fit. The SengSo Crazy Mirror series also includes 2x2 and Pyraminx counterparts, so you can put together a matching set.
