SengSo Mirror Crazy Pyraminx

SengSo Mirror Crazy Pyraminx is a ShengShou puzzle with two challenges in one. It's a mirror puzzle, so all pieces are the same colour (blue in this version) and you solve it by shape, not by colour. On top of that comes the "Crazy" part: each face has a circular piece that also has to be put back in its place. When solved, the puzzle is a tetrahedron. While you're solving it, it turns into a collection of irregular shapes.

How it differs from a regular Mirror Pyraminx

In the classic ShengShou Mirror Pyraminx, the layers have different thicknesses, so after a few moves the pieces stick out in different directions. You solve it by bringing the puzzle back to its original shape. The Crazy version adds circles on the faces. Even when the shape is already correct, the circles may still be scrambled, so they need a separate solving stage. If you know the regular mirror version or a standard Pyraminx, that experience will help, but you'll still have to work out how to deal with the circles.

How it turns

The puzzle has no magnets. It's a collector's puzzle for relaxed solving and figuring things out, not a speedcubing puzzle. Users describe the turning as decent. They also note that the circular pieces in the face centres sometimes pop out when you turn more forcefully. At a relaxed pace, this doesn't get in the way of solving. As with most puzzles of this type, a little lube can make the turning smoother.

Who is it for?

For someone who has already mastered the basic cubes and wants something new for their collection or to figure out. It can also be a good gift for a teenager who already solves cubes and knows the basic puzzles. For a very first puzzle, a classic Pyraminx is a better choice, and for speedcubing, go for a magnetic model.
