SengSo Mirror SQ-0 is the mirror version of the Square-0 by ShengShou. A Square-0 is a Square-1 without the edges. Only the larger corner pieces remain, so there are far fewer combinations than on a regular Square-1. This puzzle has no colors. The layers have different heights, and you solve it by shape, which means you have to bring it back into an even cube.

Mirror Slice: mirrored in one axis only

ShengShou makes two versions of the Mirror Square-0, and they are easy to confuse. The blue variant we offer is the Mirror Slice. Its layers have different thicknesses, but all pieces within one layer are the same size. The mirror effect therefore works in one axis only. This is not a full mirror like the one you know from Mirror Blocks 3x3. The other version, Mirror Layers, looks different: all pieces have the same height but differ in shape.

How it solves

For a puzzle in the Square-1 category, the Mirror SQ-0 is easy. There are only a few combinations, so if you already know the Square-1, you will solve it quickly, even without knowing any algorithms. The main challenge is recognizing which layer is which when there are no colors. If you are just starting with the Square-1, it is a good way to get used to this puzzle's moves without the risk of getting lost.

This is not a speedsolving model. According to user reviews, it turns rather dry right out of the box and noticeably faster once lubed. Corner cutting is weak. The mechanism has screws, so you can adjust the tension. Setting it too loose, however, can lead to popping.

Who is it for?

The Mirror SQ-0 is mainly bought by people who collect mirror cubes and shape mods, or who like the Square-1 and want to try a simpler variant. It also makes a good gift for someone who already owns a few cubes. For timed Square-1 practice, it is better to choose a regular speedcubing model.
