The SengSo MoSheng 8x8 is an affordable 8x8 cube from ShengShou's MoSheng series. It measures approx. 68 mm, weighs approx. 236 g and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme. A good first 8x8 cube for anyone who can already solve smaller NxN cubes.
SengSo MoSheng 8x8 is an 8x8 cube from ShengShou's MoSheng series. SengSo is the name under which ShengShou sells its puzzles. The MoSheng series covers large NxN cubes, from 7x7 all the way up to 17x17. Almost every size comes in a version with magnets and one without. This 8x8 cube is relatively small for its size: it measures approx. 68 mm and weighs approx. 236 g. It comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.
Our unit is named simply "MoSheng 8x8", without the "M" suffix. That name usually refers to the basic, non-magnetic version. On an 8x8 cube this is an important difference. Magnets help the layers settle into place, and without them you need to pay more attention to aligning the layers properly before the next move. Otherwise lockups and catching happen more easily. The magnetic version is noticeably more expensive. The cheaper non-magnetic version is a good choice if you want to find out whether you enjoy big cubes at all.
The MoSheng 8x8 is a new model and there are few reliable reviews of it so far. That is why we don't want to make firm claims about its speed or corner cutting. According to early descriptions, the cube has a fairly smooth and stable turning feel. With a size of 68 mm and 8 layers, the pieces are small. If you have larger hands, you may need a moment to get used to it, but a smaller cube is easier to hold during long solves.
For someone who can already solve a 6x6 or 7x7 and wants to try their first 8x8 cube without spending a lot. It is also a nice pick for collectors of big cubes. If you want to solve for time regularly, consider the magnetic version or another magnetic 8x8 cube. With this many layers, magnets clearly help you keep control. This model is not suitable as a child's first cube. It's better to master the 3x3 first.
