An affordable 9x9 cube from ShengShou's MoSheng series. At approx. 74 mm and approx. 273 g, it is very small for a 9x9 and comfortable to hold. A great choice for your first go at big cubes and for your collection.
An affordable 9x9 cube from ShengShou (SengSo) for anyone who wants to get started with big cubes without buying a flagship model right away. The SengSo MoSheng Cubic 9x9 belongs to the budget MoSheng series, which also includes 7x7 and 10x10 cubes. It measures approx. 74 mm, which makes it exceptionally small for a 9x9. It comes stickerless in the bright colour scheme.
Many 9x9 cubes are over 80 mm. The older ShengShou 9x9 is as big as approx. 92 mm, and the same manufacturer's pillowed 9x9 is around 83 mm. The MoSheng is just over 7 cm and weighs approx. 273 g. This makes it easier to hold and lets you solve longer without getting tired. That is especially helpful for people with smaller hands and for kids. There is a trade-off, though: the pieces are very small, so you need to turn more precisely, especially on the inner layers.
Users say the cube turns smoothly right out of the box and is perfectly fine for casual solving. Don't expect the performance of a magnetic flagship 9x9, though. When turning fast, lockups and misalignments happen more easily, and you have to keep the layers aligned yourself. If you want to solve for time, a more expensive magnetic model will serve you better.
The cube is also available as the MoSheng 9x9 M, with magnets. The magnets help the layers snap into place and make the cube more stable, but the M version is noticeably more expensive. The standard version is a good choice if you simply want to see what solving a 9x9 is like, add one to your collection, or practise reducing centres and edges for the first time.
For those who can solve a 4x4 or 5x5 and want to move up to a bigger size, for collectors, and for parents looking for an ambitious gift for their child. Solving a 9x9 takes a lot of time, so we don't recommend it as a first cube.
