ShengShou Mr.M S 3x3

ShengShou Mr.M S 3x3 is one of the cheapest magnetic 3x3 cubes you can buy. It is a newer version in the Mr.M series. It joined the original Mr.M, the first factory-magnetized ShengShou cube, in 2022. The magnets come pre-installed, so you don't have to glue anything in yourself. The S version has a matte finish without a UV coating and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The Mr.M S turns lightly, and its corner cutting is good for this price range. The magnets give a clear click with every move and help the layers snap into place, so the cube feels more stable than cheap non-magnetic models. Opinions on magnet strength are divided. According to earlier information, the S version has weaker magnets than the original Mr.M, yet some people still find them fairly strong. Some users also mention catching and a slightly scratchy feel without lube. Good lube and adjusting the screws usually make the turning noticeably smoother.

Design and adjustment

The mechanism is simple and resembles budget cubes such as the GuanLong or ChiLong. The internal pieces are made of uncoloured (primary) plastic, which improves how the cube performs when turning. Tension is adjusted with screws. According to distributors' descriptions, the S version has longer screws, and the inside of the pieces is designed to reduce popping and corner twists.

Who is it for?

The Mr.M S works well as a first magnetic 3x3 cube for someone who already knows the basics and wants to see what solving with magnets is like. It is also a good choice for a child or as a spare cube for school or your backpack. If you train regularly and want extensive tension adjustment, Ball-Core or MagLev, you should look at more expensive models. The cube is legal for official competitions.
