The SengSo Petaminx by ShengShou is a 9x9 version of the Megaminx. It has twelve flat faces, each divided like a face of a 9x9 cube, and the whole puzzle consists of 950 moving pieces. Among the big minxes, it is two layers larger than the Teraminx. This puzzle is for people who have already solved the Megaminx, Gigaminx or Teraminx and want something that takes much longer to solve. This version is stickerless in a bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

How it turns

This 9x9 megaminx is not made for speedsolving. It is meant for relaxed solving over many hours. Users describe the turning as smooth and consistent across all layers. They also praise the mechanism for its stability, especially for such a large puzzle. The Petaminx comes factory lubed, often with excess lube that is best wiped off before your first solve. How to solve the Petaminx

You solve the Petaminx the same way as other big minxes, using the reduction method. First you solve the centres on each face, then you pair up the edges, and finally you finish it like a regular Megaminx. After the Gigaminx or Teraminx you don't need to learn completely new techniques, but there is a lot more work. The first solve usually takes many hours. The large 9x9 faces also give you plenty of room for creating patterns.

For cubers who enjoy big minxes and want to take the next step after the Teraminx. The Petaminx is also a great choice for collectors, as it looks good on a shelf once solved. We don't recommend it as a first puzzle or as a gift for a child who is just starting out.
