SengSo pillowed 2x2

ShengShou Pillowed 2x2

ShengShou Pillowed 2x2 (also sold as SengSo Pillowed 2x2) is a pillowed version of the 2x2 cube. Its faces aren't flat but slightly bulging, which gives the cube a rounded look, a bit like a small pillow. It measures 50 mm, weighs approx. 62 g and comes in a stickerless bright version, which means no stickers, with pieces made of coloured plastic.

How it solves

When it comes to solving, it's no different from a classic 2x2 cube. The pieces are the same and so are the algorithms, so you can use any method, from the beginner's layer-by-layer method to Ortega or CLL. The only thing that changes is how the cube feels in your hand. The rounded faces have no sharp edges for your fingers to rest against, so the grip is different from a flat-faced cube. For fast fingertricks, it takes some getting used to. For relaxed, casual solving, though, the shape can be quite comfortable.

Stickerless and colours

The stickerless bright version has no stickers or tiles that could wear off or peel. The colours are in the plastic itself, so the cube keeps its look for a long time and handles everyday use well, even in the hands of a child.

Who is it for?

The Pillowed 2x2 is more of a novelty and a change from a regular 2x2 than a cube for breaking records. It works well as:

• a gift or a first 2x2 cube for someone who likes an unusual look,
• a collector's cube, alongside the pillowed 3x3 and other versions in this series,
• a cube for casual solving at home.

If you want to practise 2x2 for time, choose a modern flat-faced speed cube, ideally a magnetic one. For pure speed, it will be more predictable and stable.
