SengSo Timer V3

SengSo Timer V3

SengSo Timer V3 is the third version of an affordable speedcubing timer from ShengShou (SengSo is this manufacturer's brand). It does one job: it reliably measures your solve time and shows the result to the thousandth of a second. There are no advanced features and no app connection. What you get is a convenient, easy-to-read way to time your practice sessions, and it does more for you than a stopwatch on your phone.

How the cube timer works

The timer works like a typical speedcubing timer. You place both hands on the touch pads, and timing starts when you lift them. When you finish the solve, you touch the pads again and the time stops. In the V3 the manufacturer used multi-line inductive touch pads along with a new chip and motherboard. These changes are meant to help the timer detect your hands more reliably at the start and stop. This matters especially in fast solves, when every hundredth counts. The last result stays in memory, so you can write it down calmly after the solve.

Design

• Non-slip pads on the bottom keep the timer from sliding across the table when you stop it forcefully.
• Reinforced, drop-resistant housing with a soldered display, so it handles being carried in a backpack to cubing meetups better.
• Colours: black body with purple and orange accents.
• Power: 2 AAA batteries, not included.

Who is it for?

For anyone who is starting to time their solves regularly and wants to practise in competition-like conditions, with both hands used to start and stop. It also works well as a cheap backup timer or for a club or school where several people share it. Some users point out that the timer is fairly light, which is no surprise in this price range. Official WCA competitions use other, licensed timers. The SengSo V3 is designed for practice at home.
