SengSo YuFeng Megaminx is a magnetic megaminx from ShengShou (SengSo is the newer name the manufacturer uses for its puzzles). The model went on sale in early 2024. It has magnets in the pieces plus additional magnets in the core. It sits in the budget segment, but it offers more features than budget megaminxes usually do.

Shape and grip

The easiest way to recognize the YuFeng is by its textured faces. The surface has deep dimples that improve grip. On a megaminx this really matters, because solving involves a lot of face turns and constantly rotating the whole puzzle in your hands. A more secure grip makes rotations easier and reduces the risk of the puzzle slipping out of your hands during faster turning.

Magnets and Ball-Core

The magnets in the YuFeng are medium strength. They help the faces settle into place after a turn, but they shouldn't make the puzzle feel heavy or overly "snappy". The manufacturer has also added magnets in the core (Ball-Core). On a megaminx, with its 12 faces and many pieces, this is meant to keep the puzzle stable while you solve. ShengShou doesn't state how many magnets there are or exactly how the core is laid out, so we don't include this information in the specifications.

Who is it for?

The YuFeng makes a good first megaminx for anyone who already knows the 3x3 and wants to try a twelve-faced puzzle. A megaminx is solved layer by layer, just like a 3x3, only with more pieces. It also works well as a more affordable practice megaminx for anyone who doesn't want to buy a flagship right away. An advanced solver looking for a specific tension setup and a highly refined feel will probably be interested in more expensive designs. At this price, though, the YuFeng offers a lot.
