The SengSo YuFeng Pyraminx is a magnetic Pyraminx from ShengShou (SengSo is this manufacturer's brand) with a factory Ball-Core. It was released in early 2024 and is the first SengSo Pyraminx with a magnetic ball inside. In terms of design, it resembles the MGC Pyraminx EVO. It's cheaper than flagship models, though, so you can try Ball-Core in a Pyraminx without spending a lot.

How it turns

The magnets in the pieces are strong, and the puzzle turns well right out of the box. You don't need to lube or adjust it before your first solves. The Ball-Core pulls the layers into the correct position (auto-alignment), so after a fast move it's easier to land the turn and overshooting happens less often.

The factory tension is rather loose. Some users notice that this can lead to lockups when turning inaccurately. There are also occasional reports of tips sometimes popping out during solves. You shouldn't expect a Pyraminx in this price range to perform like more expensive premium models. Still, it works well for practice and for learning speed methods.

Ball-Core in a Pyraminx

In a classic magnetic Pyraminx, the magnets only attract neighbouring pieces to each other. In the Ball-Core version, there is also a magnetic ball in the centre of the puzzle that pulls the pieces from the inside. As a result, the puzzle holds its shape more firmly and behaves more stably during fast moves. This model has magnets only, without MagLev, and the surface has no UV coating.

Who is it for?

The YuFeng is a sensible choice if you've already had your first basic Pyraminx and want to move up to a magnetic Ball-Core model at an affordable price. It also works as a backup Pyraminx for speedcubers. Competitors who want adjustability and a refined setup may prefer more expensive models, such as the MGC EVO.
