ShengShou 10x10x10 V2

This is the second version of the 10x10 cube from ShengShou. In other shops you may also find it as ShengShou (SengSo) Pillowed 10x10. The manufacturer's first 10x10 was flat, measured over 100 mm and weighed almost 3/4 of a kilogram. The ShengShou 10x10x10 V2 is much smaller and lighter. It measures approx. 86 mm, has a slightly rounded (pillowed) shape and a stickerless bright colour scheme with a matte (frosted) finish on the pieces.

How 10 layers fit into 86 mm

The cube stays small thanks to a two-layer internal mechanism. The three inner layers are attached to the outer part of the mechanism, and the two outer layers to the part located deeper inside. MoFangJiaoShi uses a similar solution in its cubes, but there the mechanism has as many as three layers. The cube has no magnets.

How it solves

The cube turns noticeably heavier than the MeiLong 10x10 from MoFangJiaoShi, so this is not a 10x10 for light, fast layer turning. It makes up for it with good handling. Thanks to the rounded sides, it feels smaller in your hands than its dimensions suggest, and it is easier to hold securely during long solves. The cube comes lubed from the factory. However, some users report that the inner layers of ShengShou even-layered cubes feel stiff at first, so it is a good idea to keep some cube lube at hand.

Who is it for?

For cubers who already know the 6x6 and 7x7 and want to try a real big cube, and for collectors of large puzzles. Solving a 10x10 takes a long time, so the small size and low weight really matter here. For a child's first cube, a 3x3 is a better choice.
