ShengShou 11x11x11

The ShengShou 11x11x11 is a large non-magnetic 11x11 cube in the stickerless bright colour scheme. This is the newer, rounded (pillowed) 2019 version of this cube: it measures approx. 91 mm and weighs approx. 426 g. The older, cube-shaped ShengShou 11x11 from 2016 was much bigger and heavier. With 11 layers on each axis, the cube has 486 centres, 108 edges and 8 corners, so a single solve takes quite a while.

How it turns

Turning is average. This is not a speed cube but a solid big cube for relaxed solving. Thanks to its pillowed shape it feels smaller in your hands than its size suggests, and it is comfortable to hold during long sessions. According to user reviews, the cube comes out of the box set fairly loose. After tightening the screws, catching is noticeably reduced and the cube becomes more stable. With aggressive turning, as on a 3x3, it may pop. Lockups also happen with this many layers, but if you align the layers carefully, you can avoid most of them.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. It is worth doing this right after unboxing: a tighter cube is more controllable and pops less often, while a looser one turns more lightly but is more prone to popping. The cube has no magnets, so layer alignment depends entirely on the precision of your turns.

Who is it for?

For anyone who has already mastered the 7x7 or 9x9 and wants to take on something bigger, but not yet a 15x15 or 17x17. The cube also works well as a display piece in a big cube collection. 11x11 is not a WCA event, so the cube is not intended for official competitions. For beginners, or as a gift for a child who is just learning to solve, a smaller cube is a better choice.
