ShengShou 15x15x15

ShengShou 15x15 is ShengShou's first 15x15x15 cube. It came out in 2019 as the second mass-produced cube of this size, a few months after the MoYu 15x15. It's a classic, non-magnetic design for anyone who wants to solve a really big big cube. This is not a cube for setting records.

Construction and turning

The mechanism is fairly simple for a cube with 15 layers. There are no magnets or other features to help with stability or layer alignment. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws.

Turning is heavy and stiff, which is no surprise at this size. You need to turn calmly and align the layers carefully, because every movement affects a dozen or so slices at once. If you've already handled smaller big cubes, such as a 7x7 or 9x9, you should get the feel for this rhythm quickly. If you're coming from magnetic 3x3 or 4x4 cubes, be ready for a completely different, slower pace.

Size and weight

The cube measures approx. 120 mm per side and weighs approx. 912 g. For a 15x15, that's still a size you can hold in your hands. The weight is clearly noticeable, though, and during longer solves it's more comfortable to rest the cube on a table.

Who is it for?

For a cuber who already knows the reduction method and has solved a few smaller big cubes, and now wants to take on a 15x15 just for the satisfaction. Solving a cube like this takes hours. It also works well as an eye-catching piece in a collection. 15x15 is not a WCA event, so you can't use this cube at official competitions. It's a bad choice as a child's first cube: it's heavy, demanding and very time-consuming.
