ShengShou Mr.M 2x2x2 is an affordable magnetic 2x2 cube from the Mr.M series, which ShengShou launched in 2018. The magnets come pre-installed, so you don't have to glue anything in yourself. The model is legal for official competitions. Two colour variants are available in our shop: Black and Stickerless Bright.

How it turns

The cube is lightweight, and reviewers and speedcubing shops describe its feel as light and slightly scratchy rather than smooth. For this price range, the magnets are fairly strong. They help the layers snap into place and reduce overshooting. Some people, however, feel them during turns as a slight "clicking". The Mr.M has decent corner cutting and handles fast turning well.

User opinions on the factory setup are mixed. Some people get a cube that is quite loose and dry, which makes it feel less controllable at first. Tightening the screws, a short break-in period and a little lube usually help. After this kind of setup, the cube turns noticeably more evenly.

Adjustment

Tension is set with the adjustment screws inside the cube. Tighter screws give a more stable, calmer cube, while looser settings give faster turning but less control. The cube has no compression system and no interchangeable magnets, so the magnet strength cannot be changed.

Who is this magnetic 2x2 cube for?

The Mr.M works well as a first 2x2 cube for a child or a beginner, and also as a cheap spare cube for learning algorithms. It is also a sensible step up for anyone who has so far been solving on a non-magnetic cube from a toy shop, as the magnets make control noticeably easier. A speedcuber who wants a smooth feel and more adjustment options should rather choose a more expensive, higher-end model.
