ShengShou Mr. M 3x3

ShengShou Mr. M 3x3 is the first ShengShou cube to come magnetic straight from the factory. It was released in 2018 and is still one of the cheapest magnetic 3x3 cubes. It works well as your first magnetic cube: there's nothing to glue in or modify, just take it out of the box.

Design

On the outside, the Mr. M is built exactly like the ShengShou Gem and Tank. The difference is that the Mr. M pieces have slots for magnets. The internal mechanism is simple, similar to cubes like the GuanLong and ChiLong. It's a proven budget design without elaborate adjustment systems.

The entire interior is made of unpigmented ABS plastic (primary), which has a positive effect on how the mechanism performs. Both the black and stickerless versions have external caps, so the inside is made of the same plastic in both variants. This means the colour of the faces has no effect on how the cube turns. The caps on the stickerless version have an uneven, rough texture. Some people like it, others need time to get used to it.

Magnets and feel

The cube has N35 magnets measuring 5 x 1.5 mm. They sit in slots without glue. They are strong: every time a layer lines up you hear a clear click and can really feel them working. Even so, the cube turns lightly and out of the box it's fairly loose and fast. Corner cutting is good for this price range. If you prefer weaker magnets and calmer turning, keep in mind that the magnets in the Mr. M are clearly noticeable.

Who is it for?

The Mr. M is a sensible choice for beginners or casual solvers who want a magnetic cube for little money. It also works well as a first good cube for a child or as a spare 3x3 for school or your backpack. The model is allowed in official competitions. More advanced speedcubers who want to adjust magnet strength or compression should go for a more expensive design.
