Shengshou 4x4x4 Mr.M

The Shengshou 4x4x4 Mr.M is a magnetic 4x4 cube from the Mr. M series, ShengShou's budget line of magnetic cubes. The model was released in 2019. The magnets come factory-installed, so you don't have to glue them in yourself. The cube is legal for official competitions and comes in two colour versions: Black and Stickerless Bright.

How it turns
The Mr.M 4x4 is fast right out of the box. Its design is similar to other 4x4 cubes, but the grooves in the inner pieces change how it feels. When solving, you'll notice it feels similar to the Mr. M 3x3. The magnets are rather light and stronger on the inner layers than on the outer ones. Some users describe the turning as crispy and a bit blocky. Corner cutting is decent, but not as forgiving as on more expensive 4x4 cubes. At higher turning speeds the uneven magnet strength can get in the way, so cubers aiming for really good times usually move on to a higher-end model later.

The cube is not lubed at the factory, so it's worth getting cube lube right away. Once lubed, the mechanism turns more smoothly and quietly. Layer tension is set with the adjustment screws.

Who is it for?
The Mr.M is a good choice if you're learning to solve the 4x4 or want to switch from a non-magnetic cube to a magnetic one without spending a lot of money. It's also a nice cube for Mr. M series collectors and casual solvers. Compared with flagship 4x4 cubes, it's more of a cube for hobbyists than gear for regular speedcubing practice.
