Shengshou 5x5x5 Mr.M

ShengShou Mr.M 5x5 is an affordable, factory-magnetized 5x5 cube released in 2019. The puzzle is 63 mm in size and comes in two versions: black body and stickerless bright. Magnets come as standard, so you don't need to buy a separate "M" version or magnetize the cube yourself.

The design doesn't differ much from earlier ShengShou 5x5 cubes. The main difference is the magnets. The manufacturer hasn't added any special mechanism features such as MagLev, Ball-Core or friction-reducing tracks. The cube also has no UV coating.

How the Mr.M 5x5 cube turns

The cube turns very lightly right out of the box, with almost no resistance, even though the screws are fairly tight from the factory. Corner cutting is good. The magnets are medium or rather weak, so they don't "snap" the layers into place as strongly as in more expensive models. The feel is light and slightly scratchy rather than typically smooth. Some people may want to soften it with lube.

Opinions on speed are mixed. Most users find the Mr.M fast right out of the box, but some say it's slow. A lot depends on the screw setting and lubrication.

Adjustment

Tension is set the classic way, with adjustment screws. If the factory setting feels too tight, loosening the screws slightly will improve corner cutting. On a 5x5 cube, setting it too loose usually increases the risk of popping, so it's better to adjust it gradually.

Who is it for?

The Mr.M is a good fit for intermediate cubers and for those starting out with bigger cubes who want a magnetic model right away without spending much. It is also legal for official competitions. A more advanced cuber looking for strong magnets and more setup options will probably be interested in a more expensive flagship 5x5.
