ShengShou Examinx 11x11

ShengShou Examinx is a dodecahedron with 11 layers. A regular megaminx roughly corresponds to a 3x3 cube, and the Examinx is its 11x11 equivalent. In the minx family, it is the next step after the Gigaminx (5 layers), Teraminx (7) and Petaminx (9). ShengShou released this puzzle in 2020. Our shop offers the stickerless bright version.

How does it turn?

Given its size and complex mechanism, the Examinx turns surprisingly well. Still, you should know what to expect: this is not a puzzle for speedsolving. Most layers turn without any trouble, but you should align the layers carefully before every turn. Otherwise, the center pieces may catch and try to pop out. It's best to keep the puzzle on a table or on your lap, because holding it up in your hands like a 3x3 quickly tires your arms and can lead to accidental moves. According to users, units straight from the factory are sometimes heavily lubed, which is quite common with large ShengShou minxes.

Is it hard to solve?

If you can solve a megaminx, you can handle the Examinx too. The method is the same as for other large minxes: first you build the centers, then you pair the edges, and finally you solve the whole puzzle like a regular megaminx. The challenge isn't new algorithms but the huge number of pieces. A solve takes many hours, and your first attempt may stretch over several sessions.

Who is it for?

The Examinx is primarily for collectors and big puzzle enthusiasts who have already conquered a Gigaminx or Teraminx and want to take on something bigger. It is not suitable as a first puzzle or as a gift for a beginner. It is also not permitted in official WCA competitions.
