ShengShou Fisher Cube

ShengShou Fisher Cube is a shape mod built on a standard 3x3 cube mechanism. The difference lies in how it is cut: the cuts are rotated 45 degrees around one axis. When solved, it looks like an ordinary cube, but just a few turns of the side faces change its shape and make it much harder to read than a standard 3x3. This version is stickerless in a bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers to wear off or peel.

How to solve the Fisher Cube

The mechanism is still a 3x3, so the same rules apply. If you can solve a classic cube, you can solve the Fisher too. The challenge comes from the pieces looking different than on a 3x3, so you have to learn to recognise them again. Some of them look like pieces of a different type, and once scrambled the puzzle loses its cube shape, so finding your way around can be tricky at first. Most people quickly apply the algorithms they already know to the new shape, which is why the Fisher Cube is often the first shape mod in a collection.

The puzzle turns smoothly and shouldn't jam during normal solving. However, as with other shape mods, the mechanism isn't as forgiving as on modern 3x3 speed cubes: when the shape is heavily changed, you need to align the layers fairly precisely. This is a puzzle for casual solving, not for breaking records.

Tension adjustment

The Fisher Cube has adjustment screws, so you can set the tension to your liking. If the layers turn too loosely or too tightly, simply tighten or loosen the screws slightly.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to try something different without learning a completely new method. It also makes a great gift for a child who has mastered the classic cube. Keep in mind that the Fisher Cube is not a WCA event, so you can't use it at official competitions.
