ShengShou Mirror 2x2

ShengShou Mirror 2x2 is the 2x2 version of the well-known Mirror puzzle. ShengShou released it in 2016, after the classic Mirror 3x3 was well received. All sides are the same color. Instead, the pieces differ in thickness, so when scrambled, the cube loses its cubic shape and turns into an irregular block. Solving it means restoring the cube shape, and you are guided by the shape of the pieces, not by colors.

How do you solve it?

The mechanism works just like a regular 2x2 cube, so the same algorithms apply. The challenge lies elsewhere: before you make a move, you need to judge which piece fits where and how it should be oriented. Comparing the height of neighboring pieces is all it takes. During your first solves it's easy to make a mistake, because a piece that looks like it fits may be in the wrong orientation. If you already know how to solve a regular 2x2, it's a great way to train piece recognition. If you can't solve a 2x2 yet, you can start with the instructions included in the set.

Mechanism and build quality

The cube turns smoothly and without much resistance straight out of the box. Some users say it works even better once broken in. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws. When solved, the cube measures approx. 57 mm, noticeably larger than a typical 2x2 cube. It sits securely in your hand and is well suited to relaxed, longer solving sessions.

This is a shape mod puzzle, designed for fun and collecting, not for speedcubing. It is not allowed in official competitions.

Color versions

You can choose from four combinations of body and sticker color: black with silver, black with gold, white with silver and white with gold. All versions have the same mechanism and differ only in appearance.

Who is it for?

For those who can solve a regular 2x2 and want to try something different. Also for puzzle collectors and as a first step before the Mirror 3x3. It also makes a great gift, as it looks interesting even on a shelf.
