ShengShou Mr.M 3x3x3 v2

ShengShou Mr.M 3x3x3 v2 is the second generation of ShengShou's budget magnetic 3x3 cube, released in 2020. Compared with the original Mr.M, the manufacturer improved the mechanism and added spring tension adjustment. The cube has a black body and a standard size of 56 mm, and it comes with two sets of springs and adjustment tools. This lets you practise setting up the cube to suit your own preferences.

What has changed since the first version

The internals are very similar to the original Mr.M, so the v2 is more of an improved version of the same design than a completely new cube. The corners are interesting: they are built similarly to those in older GAN 3x3 cubes. The magnets are visible in the pieces. The most important change is adjustable spring tension, which the first version did not have.

Adjustment and springs

• 5 spring tension levels. Out of the box, the cube is set to the third level, right in the middle of the scale.
• Screw adjustment. A key and a screwdriver are included.
• Two sets of springs: soft gold springs come installed in the cube, and the set also includes stiffer silver springs. Stiffer springs give a firmer, more controlled turning feel. Soft springs give a looser, lighter feel.

Who is it for?

The Mr.M v2 is an affordable cube for someone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to move from a regular non-magnetic cube to a magnetic one. If you are just learning how to adjust a cube, the extra set of springs will come in handy. Keep in mind, though, that this is a 2020 model. User reviews are mixed, and some point out weaker corner cutting than in newer budget magnetic cubes. If you practise regularly and want to improve your times quickly, a newer cube in a similar price range may be a better choice.
