Shengshou Tank 3x3x3

ShengShou Tank 3x3x3 is a budget non-magnetic speed cube from 2018, one of several affordable 3x3 cubes ShengShou released after the well-received Aurora. It measures 56 mm, weighs approx. 87 g and is legal for official competitions. The version available in our shop is stickerless bright with a matte (frosted) finish.

How the Shengshou Tank turns

Out of the box, the Tank turns light and fairly fast, and it feels more controllable than flexible. It makes a pleasant, not too loud sound while solving. The most common complaint from users is lockups during fast algorithm execution, so they recommend lubing it first. According to reviews, after lubing the cube turns noticeably more fluidly and becomes smooth, although it still has a slightly "blocky" feel. The mechanism is not as forgiving as in newer magnetic cubes, so precise turning gives clearly better results.

Design and tension adjustment

The sides of the edge pieces have long, curved grooves designed to reduce friction and help keep the layers stable. Each edge can be taken apart into two unequal parts (a larger and a smaller one), which makes thorough cleaning easier. The corners have a simple design and sit on a fairly short foot, so the turns are predictable. Tension is adjusted the classic way, with adjustment screws.

Who is it for?

The Tank works well as a first cube for learning to solve or as a cheap spare for school or travel. It is also a good choice for a child who is just starting out. If you already time your solves regularly and want to improve quickly, you will benefit more from an affordable magnetic model. Magnets help the layers snap into place and reduce the lockups that occur in the Tank at higher TPS.
