ShengShou Windmill Cube

ShengShou Windmill Cube is a shape mod, a shape-shifting puzzle built on the mechanism of a classic 3x3 cube. Its name comes from its shape: the layers are cut at an angle, so the top and bottom faces look like a windmill. After a few moves the cube loses its cubic shape, and the pieces differ in size and form. The version we offer is stickerless in the bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

Inside is a standard 3x3 mechanism. If you can solve a 3x3 with any method, you can also solve the Windmill Cube with the same moves and algorithms. The challenge lies elsewhere: once it is scrambled, you have to recognize pieces by their shape and colour, not just by their position on a regular grid. For many people it is an interesting change after hundreds of solves on regular cubes and a good way to see a familiar mechanism from a new angle.

The pieces hold together well. The cube turns smoothly, and lockups are rare. The rounded internal edges of the pieces help with corner cutting, so even when a layer is slightly misaligned, the turn usually still goes through. It is still a shape mod, though, not a cube for breaking records. The irregular shape makes a stable grip and very high TPS harder to achieve, and this design is not intended for that.

You can set the tension with the adjustment screws. Tighten them if the cube feels too loose, or loosen them if you want lighter turning. The Windmill Cube is not allowed in official WCA competitions. People buy it for solving just for fun and for their collections.

It is also a great gift for a child who has mastered the classic cube and is looking for a new challenge without learning from scratch. If someone has never solved any cube yet, it is better to start with a regular 3x3.
