Z-Cube Time Machine is a 2x2 cube shape mod that adds an extra stage to solving. Inside is a standard 2x2 mechanism, and the faces have rotating pieces that look like a clock dial. You can scramble the cube with them independently of the layer turns, so the Time Machine can be harder than it looks at first glance.

How do you solve the Time Machine cube?

The first stage is the same as on a classic 2x2 cube: you solve the layers so that each face is a single colour. That is when the real fun begins. You then have to set the dial pieces to match the colours and in ascending order, like the numbers on a clock. Solving the 2x2 alone is not enough, because the scrambled dials still need to be matched.

Knowing the 2x2 makes this easier. If you can already solve a regular 2x2 cube, you have the first stage covered and can focus on the new element. If you have never solved a 2x2 before, start by learning that cube first.

Who is it for?

The Time Machine is a puzzle for solving just for fun, not a cube for speedsolving. It is not allowed in official competitions, so it will not replace a 2x2 for WCA practice. It is a great choice for cubers who already know the basic cubes and want something different, and it also makes a nice collection piece. Thanks to its unusual look with the dials, you can also display it on your desk as a decoration.
