VeryPuzzle Corner Only Megaminx

VeryPuzzle Corner Only Megaminx is a puzzle from the Megaminx family, listed in the manufacturer's catalog as #72 with the code D5A1. VeryPuzzle built it on its Megaminx Ball V1.0 (#59), a spherical Megaminx. In this version the corners have been extended, so from the outside you mainly see the 20 corner pieces while the rest of the mechanism hides beneath them. It has the same 12 axes of rotation as a Megaminx, but in a completely different form.

How to solve it

You may know a similar idea from other puzzles. The Kilominx is a corners-only Megaminx, and the 2x2 is a 3x3 cube without edges and centers. If you can solve a Kilominx or a 2x2, you'll recognize the familiar logic here: first one face, then the middle belt, and finally the last-layer corners. The moves are the same as on a Megaminx, turning the pentagonal faces by 72 degrees. Because of the unusual shape of the pieces, though, recognizing the state of the puzzle takes a little getting used to.

This is not a speedcubing puzzle. There is no official WCA event for it. It's best treated as a puzzle for relaxed solving and for your collection, not for beating your times.

Who is it for?

For those who already have a classic Megaminx or Kilominx on the shelf and are looking for another variation from the minx family. It also makes a great gift for collectors of unusual puzzles. For your first experience with dodecahedrons, a regular Kilominx or a magnetic Megaminx is a better choice, as tutorials for them are easy to find.
