VeryPuzzle Crazy Chopper is a spherical puzzle listed as #78 in the manufacturer's catalogue. The simplest way to describe it is a ball-shaped cube that turns in two ways: around the face centers and around the edges. That gives 18 axes of rotation (6 + 12).

How this puzzle works

Face turns work just like on a regular cube. On top of that you get edge turns, familiar from Curvy Copter-type puzzles. On the Crazy Chopper both kinds of moves are available at the same time, so you have to handle two systems at once on a single puzzle. It is sometimes described as a spherical take on the curvy copter 3x3, but that comparison is only approximate, because the mechanism and the way the pieces are cut are different.

The puzzle consists of 92 moving pieces covered with 152 stickers in 12 colors. The twelve colors come from the fact that the dodecahedral-axis counterpart of the Crazy Chopper is the Rhombic Tuttminx. That is why, once scrambled, it looks more like a megaminx than a six-color cube.

Crazy Chopper or Crazy Chopper F1?

VeryPuzzle also offers model #79, the Crazy Chopper F1. It is a version with extra cuts: where the standard Crazy Chopper has one piece, the F1 has three. That adds up to 146 moving pieces and 200 stickers, making the puzzle noticeably harder. The standard Crazy Chopper is a good starting point before you take on the F1 version.

Who is it for?

For people who collect unusual puzzles and have already tackled edge-turning cubes or megaminx variants. This is not a speedcubing puzzle, but a collector's puzzle to work out at your own pace. We don't recommend it as a first puzzle for a child or for someone who is just learning to solve a 3x3.
