VeryPuzzle Hex Shaper is a planar puzzle, a flat twisty puzzle whose pieces turn along hexagonal cuts. It isn't just a plain flat disc, though. The body is slightly convex, two-sided and mirror-symmetrical. Because of that, it behaves a bit like a shape mod: after a turn, the edges no longer line up and the puzzle changes its outline.

How it solves

With a classic planar puzzle you mostly focus on colors. With the Hex Shaper you also have to keep an eye on the shape, because the convex, two-sided body makes pieces stick out in different places once it's scrambled. This gives the Hex Shaper a reputation as a challenging puzzle. If you've solved a few unusual puzzles, you'll usually manage it, but probably not right away. It isn't a puzzle for speedcubing or chasing times. It works well as a relaxed puzzle to figure out on your own.

Stickerless version

The Hex Shaper in the Black variant comes as a DIY kit: the body is black and stickerless, and a full set of stickers is included. You apply them yourself, so before the first scramble you'll need to take a moment to stick them on carefully. You can also scramble the puzzle and restore its original shape without stickers, but then you're solving the shape only.

For collectors of unusual puzzles and cubers who already know the popular puzzles and are looking for something beyond cubes and classic WCA shapes. The Hex Shaper will also appeal to anyone who enjoys planar puzzles and wants to try a version where shape matters. For a child's first puzzle, a simpler model is a better choice.
