The VeryPuzzle Icosahedron Chaotic is a spherical puzzle with 20 axes, designed by Leslie Le and based on the Icosahedron V1.0. Only the hexagons turn, in 60° steps, while the pentagons are fixed and marked with an "X". This model is intended for experienced collectors who can tell a legal move from an illegal one.
This is a spherical puzzle from the VeryPuzzle range, made for collectors who already know their way around unusual twisty puzzles. It was designed by Leslie Le and released by VeryPuzzle in 2019. The VeryPuzzle Icosahedron Chaotic grew out of the Icosahedron V1.0. Three symmetrical cuts were added to each hexagonal face. The result is a puzzle with 20 axes of rotation that looks like a spherical Tuttminx but works differently.
Only the hexagons turn, in 60° steps. The pentagons stay fixed, which is why their stickers have an "X" cut into them. Keep this in mind from the start, because the intuition you built on the Megaminx or Tuttminx won't be enough here.
The axis layout of this model doesn't produce perfect spatial geometry. The edges between a pentagon and a hexagon fit together without any problem. The edges between two hexagons, however, can sit in two different orientations. The designer couldn't find an "ideal" arrangement for them, so he placed them arbitrarily. This deliberately chaotic layout gave the puzzle its name.
Not every hexagon turn is allowed. Recognising a legal move isn't always obvious and takes attention. After an illegal move, small gaps remain between the corners. These can lead to popping and lockups. So it's better to turn this puzzle calmly and with control rather than at high TPS. The mechanism has no magnets.
For collectors and anyone who has already solved Tuttminxes, spheres such as the Megaminx Ball or other VeryPuzzle models. They're looking for a puzzle with an unusual axis layout and understand what an illegal move is. For your first puzzle beyond classic cubes, or as a gift for a child, it's better to choose something simpler. If you prefer a gentler introduction to this family, you can start with the base Icosahedron V1.0. The Chaotic model is its more finely divided version.
