VeryPuzzle Icosahedron V1.0

VeryPuzzle Icosahedron V1.0 is a spherical puzzle built on the axes of a regular icosahedron. It has 20 axes of rotation, one for each face of the solid. The manufacturer considers it one of the basic designs in its series of puzzles based on Platonic solids. We offer it with a black base and stickers in 12 colors.

How it works

At first glance the sphere looks intimidating, but it is much easier to solve than the number of axes suggests. There are three types of pieces:

• pentagonal centers, which are fixed and define the colors,
• triangular centers, which only rotate in place. They can't be moved to another position, only twisted to the correct orientation,
• petal-shaped pieces, which can only be moved between positions.

With this set of pieces, you can solve the whole puzzle with one simple "up, up, down, down" type sequence, similar to the Dino Cube. In fact, it is often compared to a spherical Dino. In practice, the challenge lies in finding your way around a large, symmetrical sphere and keeping track of which axis you are turning. There are few ready-made algorithms here. Video tutorials have also been made for this model, including some in Polish.

Who is it for?

Icosahedron V1.0 is a puzzle for collectors or cubers who already know the 3x3 and a few unusual puzzles and want something with interesting geometry, but without hours-long solves. It also works well as a first VeryPuzzle model before the more complex versions from the same family, such as the Icosahedron Chaotic or Icosahedron 77, which add more cuts. This is not a speedcubing puzzle and it is not an official WCA event. For a child's first puzzle, a classic cube or a Pyraminx is a better choice.
