VeryPuzzle IRT V1 F1

VeryPuzzle IRT V1 F1 (#82 in the manufacturer's catalogue) is a puzzle for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual twisty puzzles. It is not a speedcubing cube. The model is derived from the Big Stingray, i.e. the IRT V1.0. The difference is that the F1 version has additional cuts on the quadrilateral faces. The puzzle comes as a DIY kit, so you need to assemble it and apply the stickers yourself before your first solve.

Where the name IRT comes from

IRT refers to the arrangement of rotation axes the puzzle is based on. They come from the faces of two solids: the regular icosahedron and the rhombic triacontahedron. The VeryPuzzle DIRT V1.0 has the same axes plus the axes of the dodecahedron (hence the D in its name), so the two models have different mechanisms and cannot be treated as the same puzzle in a different edition.

IRT V1 F1 vs. Big Stingray

The Big Stingray (IRT V1.0) is the basic version of this axis system. The F1 version has additional cuts on the quadrilateral faces, which create more pieces and give the puzzle a different division. If you already own a Big Stingray, the F1 will be an extension of it rather than a repeat of the same puzzle.

A kit to assemble yourself

A DIY kit needs a different approach than a ready-made cube. First you assemble the mechanism from individual pieces, then you apply the stickers. This takes patience and some time. For many collectors, however, assembly is part of the fun, as it shows clearly how the mechanism of a multi-axis puzzle works. The body is black.

For twisty puzzle collectors and people who have already tried a few puzzles beyond the standard range and are looking for something based on an unusual axis system. For a first puzzle or a gift for a child who is just starting out, it is better to choose a ready-made model, such as a Megaminx or a Pyraminx.
