VeryPuzzle IRT V1 F2 (manufacturer's catalogue number #83) is a spherical puzzle for collectors and for anyone who has already conquered the Megaminx and other dodecahedra and is now looking for something far less standard. This is not a speedcubing puzzle. What counts here is solving it, not the time. We offer it in Black.

What IRT is based on

The name IRT comes from two solids: the Icosahedron and the Rhombic Triacontahedron. The puzzle turns around axes defined by the faces of both of these solids at the same time. In its basic form, VeryPuzzle sells it as the Big Stingray (IRT V1.0, #81). It uses the same axis system as the DIRT V1.0, except that the DIRT also adds the dodecahedron axes.

How F2 differs from the other versions

The "F" in VeryPuzzle names marks versions with extra cuts that split the pieces into more parts. The IRT V1 series looks like this:

• Big Stingray / IRT V1.0 (#81): the base version.
• IRT V1 F1 (#82): extra cuts on the quadrilateral faces.
• IRT V1 F2 (#83): extra cuts on the hexagonal faces. According to the manufacturer, these make the grip on the icosahedron (I) axes symmetrical.

In practice, the F2 is not a "harder F1". Each version has its pieces cut up differently and different transitions between the axes, so you can happily keep both side by side in your collection.

Who is it for?

The IRT V1 F2 is for experienced puzzlers who work out their own methods for multi-axis puzzles and don't mind that a ready-made tutorial usually simply doesn't exist. Buying a gift for a child or for someone who is just learning the 3x3? It's better to start with a Megaminx or a Pyraminx. The manufacturer has prepared instructions for this model (#83) and a separate sticker set, which comes in handy if you ever need to refresh the colours.
