VeryPuzzle Rayminx

VeryPuzzle Rayminx, also known as the Gigatuttminx, is a puzzle shaped like a truncated icosahedron, the geometry of a classic football. It has 32 faces: 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons. Every one of them turns, so the puzzle has 32 axes of rotation. It was designed by Ray Bruner in 2013, and that's where the name comes from. VeryPuzzle put it into mass production in 2019 (catalogue number VP61). Before that, the Rayminx was practically impossible to get.

How is it different from the Tuttminx?

The classic Tuttminx has the same shape but fewer layers on each face. The Rayminx is its bigger version. The simplest way to describe it is as a cross between a Tuttminx and a 5x5 cube: each face has several turning layers, which adds groups of centres and edges that you need to solve separately. There are a lot of pieces, and solving it takes patience and a systematic approach above all. Speed alone won't get you far here.

How to solve the Rayminx (Gigatuttminx)

This is not a speedcubing puzzle, and it makes no sense to compare it with magnetic cubes in terms of TPS or corner cutting. It's a mechanical collector's puzzle, and the main achievement is being able to solve it at all. The designer needed three attempts before the mechanism worked. A full solve usually takes many hours. Experience with bigger cubes (the reduction method on a 5x5) and with the Tuttminx or Megaminx helps a lot.

Who is it for?

For puzzle collectors and experienced cubers who have already solved a Megaminx, a Tuttminx or bigger NxN cubes and are looking for a large, challenging project. For a first puzzle or a gift for a child, a simpler Megaminx or a 3x3 cube is a better choice.
