VeryPuzzle Rhombic Triacontahedron V1.0 F1 (RT V1 F1 for short) is a niche puzzle for collectors and for those who have already solved the Megaminx and a few other dodecahedra. The name does not refer to the puzzle's shape but to its arrangement of turning axes. The axes are defined by the faces of a rhombic triacontahedron, which has 30 faces, so the layers turn around 30 axes. The edge turning dodecahedron uses the same axis system. In practice, the RT V1 F1 behaves completely differently from the Megaminx, which has only 12 face-turning axes.

How the F1 differs from the RT V1.0

F1 stands for fragmentation. It is a partially unbandaged version of the base RT V1.0 model. Additional cuts split some of the pieces into smaller ones, so there are more pieces to solve. According to descriptions of this model, the RT V1.0 easily ends up in positions where pieces block each other, and the F1 is meant to reduce such situations. The manufacturer admits that the RT V1.0 was made mainly to explore this axis system. The F1 takes the idea further, which is why it is harder and more demanding than the base version.

This puzzle is for experienced puzzlers who enjoy unusual mechanisms and solving by trial and error, without ready-made algorithms. It is not suitable as a first puzzle or as a gift for a child who is just learning to solve the 3x3 cube. It is not a speedcubing puzzle either. What matters is understanding the mechanism, not TPS.
