VeryPuzzle Rhombic Tuttminx F2

A spherical collector's puzzle from the VeryPuzzle series, listed as #85 in the manufacturer's catalog. VeryPuzzle Rhombic Tuttminx F2 is a variant of the Rhombic Tuttminx with additional cuts, a so-called fragmentation version. It keeps the same axis system as the original, and its counterpart in the series is the earlier Rhombic Tuttminx F1. We stock the version with a black body.

What the Rhombic Tuttminx is based on

The base Rhombic Tuttminx was designed by Leslie Le, and VeryPuzzle put it into production in 2019. The mechanism runs on a hybrid system of 42 axes. It combines the axes of a face-turning dodecahedron, familiar from the Megaminx, with the axes of an edge-turning dodecahedron. This means you turn layers around two types of axes, and the pieces are arranged completely differently than in a classic Megaminx or Tuttminx. Experience with those puzzles helps, but you can't simply reuse ready-made algorithms.

What the F2 version changes

The letter F stands for a version with additional cuts. In the F1 model, VeryPuzzle added two symmetrical cuts that allow moves that are blocked on the regular Rhombic Tuttminx. The F2 develops this idea with its own set of additional cuts on the same axis system. The new cuts divide the surface into more pieces, so there are more piece types to solve than in the base version. The F1 and F2 are not successive generations of one model. They are two parallel variants of the same puzzle, each with a different cut geometry.

Who is it for?

This is not a speedcubing puzzle, nor a good choice as a child's first puzzle. The Rhombic Tuttminx F2 is for collectors and for people who have already solved the Megaminx, the Tuttminx or other dodecahedron-axis puzzles and enjoy working out their own solving method. If you haven't tried the Rhombic Tuttminx family yet, be prepared for your first solve to take quite a while.
