VeryPuzzle Rhombic Tuttminx V1.0 F1 (#65) is the fragmentation version of the Rhombic Tuttminx, based on the axes of a dodecahedron and a rhombic triacontahedron. Two additional symmetrical cuts unlock some of the moves that are impossible in the basic version. A puzzle for experienced puzzlers and collectors, with a black body.
VeryPuzzle Rhombic Tuttminx V1.0 F1 (number #65 in the manufacturer's catalogue) is a puzzle from the Tuttminx family, designed for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual twisty puzzles. The F1 designation stands for the fragmentation version, a partially unbandaged variant of the basic Rhombic Tuttminx (#63). This model comes in black.
A classic Tuttminx turns around two sets of axes: those passing through the faces of a dodecahedron (as in the Megaminx) and those passing through the faces of an icosahedron. In the Rhombic Tuttminx, VeryPuzzle kept the dodecahedral axes and replaced the second set with the axes of a rhombic triacontahedron. This system is called D+RT. Changing the axes changes the shape of the pieces and how the whole puzzle behaves, so your experience with the classic Tuttminx will only help you partially.
In the basic Rhombic Tuttminx some moves are blocked, and you have to keep the turning rules in mind. In the F1 version the manufacturer added two symmetrical cuts that allow some of these moves. The new cuts split some of the pieces into smaller fragments, so the puzzle has more pieces than version #63 and is solved differently. Only some of the moves are unlocked, so you still need to watch out for the geometry.
This puzzle is for experienced puzzlers who have already solved the Megaminx, and ideally the classic Tuttminx as well. There is no ready-made method to memorise here. VeryPuzzle generally does not publish official solutions for its puzzles, so you have to work out the solution yourself, for example by trial and error or using commutators. This is not a speedcubing puzzle, nor a good choice as a child's first puzzle. It is better suited to someone looking for a long-lasting challenge or an interesting piece for their collection.
