VeryPuzzle Spherical Tuttminx 66 (manufacturer catalog number #70) is a spherical puzzle from the Tuttminx family. Its starting point is the Spherical Tuttminx, a Tuttminx in the shape of a ball. The classic Tuttminx applies the Megaminx principle to a truncated icosahedron, the same shape as a soccer ball, with 32 turning faces: 12 pentagonal and 20 hexagonal. In version 66, VeryPuzzle has replaced all the pentagonal faces with hexagonal faces with sixfold symmetry. The manufacturer calls this the C1 version of the Spherical Tuttminx.

How it differs from a regular Tuttminx

On a classic Tuttminx, the pentagonal faces turn in 72° steps, just like on a Megaminx. Here they are replaced by faces that turn in 60° steps, so the cut geometry and the division of pieces differ from both the Tuttminx and the Spherical Tuttminx. The manufacturer points out that the puzzle has its own turning rules, and you need to keep them in mind. Not every move can be made in every position, and forcing a turn may damage the pieces. At first, turn it gently and check that the layer is properly aligned.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is for collectors and for anyone who has already tackled the Megaminx, the Tuttminx or other advanced puzzles with many axes of rotation. It is not suitable for timed speedcubing and is not a good choice as a child's first puzzle. What matters here is understanding the unusual geometry, not speed. VeryPuzzle also makes the Rhombic Tuttminx 66 (#71). Its pentagons have been replaced in the same way, but it is based on the Rhombic Tuttminx, so it is a separate puzzle, not another version of this model.
