WitEden 2x2x4 Crazy is a shape-shifting 2x2x4 cuboid whose sides can be turned 90 degrees. Every such move changes the shape of the puzzle, so solving it means both restoring the shape and solving the colours. It measures approx. 59 x 59 x 67 mm and has a black body.
WitEden 2x2x4 Crazy is a shape-shifting cuboid from the Chinese manufacturer WitEden. The company has been making unusual puzzles for years: cuboids, Crazy and Super type cubes, and shape mods. On a regular 2x2x4 cuboid, the longer side faces can only be turned 180 degrees. Here the pieces are proportioned so that the sides can also be turned 90 degrees. After such a move, the puzzle is no longer a rectangular block and starts to change shape.
The classic WitEden 2x2x4 is fully proportional: every piece has the same length, width and height. The puzzle is then shaped like an elongated rectangular block, and the restriction to 180-degree turns comes from its construction. The Crazy version is much closer to a cube (approx. 59 x 59 x 67 mm) and allows moves that a regular cuboid can't make. This gives far more possible positions, and when scrambled it looks completely different from its solved state.
When solving, you have to keep track of two things at once: restoring the correct shape and solving the colours. If you know the 2x2 or 4x4, some of that knowledge will help, but the 2x2x4 Crazy calls for its own approach. As with other 2x2x4 cuboids, the layers along the four-layer axis behave much like on a 4x4, so you should expect parity-type situations. This is a puzzle for calmly figuring things out, not a cube for setting times. Turning, TPS and corner cutting are of secondary importance here.
For people who can already solve a few standard cubes and are looking for something other than yet another 3x3. It's also a great pick for collectors of cuboids and shape-shifting puzzles. If you haven't tried cuboids yet, you may want to start with a regular, proportional 2x2x4 and only then move on to the Crazy version. For a child's first cube, a classic 2x2 or 3x3 is a better choice.
