A 2x2x6 cuboid from WitEden with its core shifted off-center. Because of this, the puzzle changes shape when you turn the side faces and solves differently from a standard 2x2x6. A collector's puzzle with a black body for those who already know regular 2x2xN cuboids.
2x2xN cuboids are usually solved like an elongated 2x2 cube. The WitEden 2x2x6 II Cuboid is a 2x2x6 tower with one key difference: the core is shifted off-center. This model is also sold under the 1688Cube brand, which belongs to WitEden, as the 1688Cube 2x2x6 II Cuboid (center-shifted). We offer it with a black body.
In the regular WitEden 2x2x6, the rotation axis of the side faces sits exactly at half the height of the tower. In version II this axis is shifted. When you turn a side face, the pieces move one layer further than symmetry would suggest, so the puzzle can change shape. That's why it belongs to the shape-shifting puzzles category rather than to regular cuboids. It's easy to lose your bearings with it, even if you know the standard 2x2x6 well.
Opinions differ on how much the shifted center makes solving harder. Some people find that the shape-shifting clearly raises the difficulty. Others say that once the neighboring layers are solved, the rest is fairly simple. This model will be the most fun for someone who enjoys figuring out unusual mechanisms.
This is a collector's puzzle, not a speedcube, so don't expect the smoothness or stability of modern 3x3 cubes. WitEden 2x2xN cuboids are known for occasional popping. On a tall tower, the outer layers are the most vulnerable when the puzzle is out of shape. Calm turning, carefully aligning the layers before each move and a bit of lube all help. Popped pieces can usually be put back in by hand. Don't pry or forcibly twist the corners, as this can break them in 2x2 mechanisms.
For cuboid collectors and people who have already mastered standard 2x2xN puzzles and are looking for something unusual. The tower also looks great on a shelf. As a first puzzle or as a gift for a child who is just starting out, a regular 2x2 cube or a simpler cuboid will be a better choice.
