The WitEden 2x2x7 is a tower-shaped cuboid with a 2x2 cross-section and a height of approx. 18 cm. The horizontal layers turn 90 degrees, while the 2x7 vertical faces turn only 180 degrees, so you solve it differently from a regular cube. This is the non-magnetic version in Black, for anyone who already knows the 2x2 and 3x3 and wants a new challenge.
WitEden 2x2x7 Cuboid Cube is a cuboid, a puzzle shaped like a rectangular prism rather than a cube. It has a 2x2 cross-section and seven layers, so it looks like a tall tower about 18 cm high. Like a regular cube, it doesn't change shape while you solve it. Even so, its new geometry means that many habits you picked up on the 3x3 simply stop working. In our shop this version is available in Black.
The horizontal layers have a 2x2 cross-section and turn 90 degrees, just like on a 2x2 cube. The vertical faces measure 2x7, so they aren't square. They can only be turned 180 degrees, because a quarter turn would break the tower's shape. This restriction means the cuboid has to be solved differently. Knowing the 2x2 and 3x3 will help, but some situations need their own algorithms, including parity. For many people, that's exactly what makes this puzzle so interesting.
According to user reviews, the mechanism turns smoothly, but some of the outer layers offer a bit of resistance. It isn't built for high TPS or timed speedsolving. The cube has no magnets, so the layers don't snap into place on their own, and you need to align them carefully before each turn. With seven layers, imprecise alignment can easily end in a lockup.
One practical tip: don't twist the corners (corner twisting), as it's easy to break a piece this way in 2x2 mechanisms. If something pops out during intense solving (popping), you can usually put it back together by hand.
This 2x2x7 cuboid is for someone who can already solve the 2x2 and 3x3 and is looking for something new. It's also a great pick for cuboid collectors, as WitEden offers a whole series of 2x2xN towers, from 2x2x4 to 2x2x7. As a child's first puzzle it may turn out to be too frustrating. To start with, a classic 3x3 cube or a shorter cuboid is a better choice.
