Ten layers along one axis, yet only slightly bigger than a regular 3x3 cube. WitEden 3x3x10 II is a shape-shifting cuboid in which some of the middle layers are deliberately rotated relative to the rest. After a few moves the puzzle loses its regular shape, and solving it takes more thinking than a classic cuboid.

How to solve it

Solving it combines several things: elements of a regular 3x3, techniques known from cuboids and plenty of intuitive work with the layers that change the puzzle's shape. Even a thorough scramble takes a while, because the rotated layers restrict the available moves until you turn a few of them.

This is not a cube for fast turning. The layers are thin, and the whole puzzle weighs about 154 g. Users report that turning is not very smooth and that the puzzle tends to pop. It's best to turn it calmly and align the layers carefully before each move. With this approach, you can avoid most pops.

Version I or II?

Both versions of the WitEden 3x3x10 have ten layers and similar dimensions, but their construction differs. According to user descriptions, version I is an asymmetric 3x3x9 with one extra layer on one side. In version II the middle layers are rotated, so the puzzle shape-shifts more and is harder to scramble. If you already own version I, version II gives you a different challenge, not a repeat.

Who is it for?

For collectors and anyone who enjoys cuboids and is looking for something beyond the standard 3x3x4 or 3x3x5. It's best to pick it up once you can already solve a 3x3 and have solved at least one simpler cuboid. The WitEden 3x3x10 II is not suitable as a child's first puzzle, as it requires patience and careful handling of the mechanism.
