WitEden 3x3x17 v1 is a tall cuboid with a 3x3 base (59 mm) and 17 vertical layers, without magnets. It is designed for those who already know the 3x3 cube and smaller cuboids, as well as for collectors of unusual puzzles. This is the basic version, without the misoriented centres found in v2.
WitEden 3x3x17 v1 is a tall cuboid with a 3x3 base and 17 vertical layers. It stands like a narrow tower and is designed mainly for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles. It has no magnets. This is version I (v1), the first of the two versions of this cuboid released by WitEden. In our shop it is available in Black.
This is not a cuboid for setting speed records. With 17 layers along one axis, reviewers rate the turning as decent. They also point out that some instability is normal with this many layers. Turn calmly, without aggressive moves, and position your fingers so they hold the neighbouring layers. Side face turns are the trickiest part. After a 90° turn, the tall, narrow layers change the shape of the whole puzzle. Some people consider this the biggest challenge of this model.
You only need to know how to solve a regular 3x3 cube and the principles of solving cuboids. However, you do need to know the parity algorithms, as parity is a normal part of cuboids. Solving the 3x3x17 takes patience above all. The steps are repetitive, but with so many layers it is easy to lose track of the order.
WitEden offers two versions of the 3x3x17. This version (v1) is a classic cuboid. In version II, some of the centre pieces are intentionally misoriented. This means that even scrambling the puzzle requires more attention, and solving it is harder. For your first cuboid from this series, v1 is the better choice.
For someone who solves the 3x3 comfortably, has already tried smaller cuboids and is looking for something bigger for their collection or for longer solving sessions. It is a poor choice as a first puzzle for a child or a beginner. Its size, number of layers and more delicate construction mean it is better to start with a standard 3x3 cube or a shorter cuboid.
