WitEden Curvy Chop Cube

WitEden Curvy Chop Cube is a puzzle designed by SMAZ and manufactured by WitEden. It is based on the Curvy Copter, a cube with curved cuts where you turn the layers around the edges. In this version the mechanism has been cut in half, so turning is only possible in four places. Some shops list the same model as SMAZ 2x2 Curvy Chop Cube or SMAZ & WitEden Curvy Chop Cube. We offer the version with a black body.

How the Curvy Chop Cube works

If you have ever held a Helicopter Cube or a Curvy Copter, you will recognise the turning style right away. The cube has no classic layers like a 3x3, and every move turns around an axis that passes through an edge. The Curvy Chop has only four such places, which makes it less complex than the full Curvy Copter. You still have to learn it from scratch, though, because methods from layer-based cubes don't carry over here. It works well as an introduction to edge-turning puzzles and as an interesting addition to your collection next to a full Copter.

What to keep in mind

• No magnets. This is a collector's puzzle, not a speed cube, so it has no magnets and no tension adjustment system.
• Not a WCA event. The Curvy Chop is not used at official competitions. You buy it for the solving itself and for your collection.
• Handle the pieces gently. Only turn the faces that can actually move. Bending corners or forcing pieces can damage the puzzle.

Who is it for?

For people who collect unusual puzzles or have already mastered layer-based cubes and want to try something different. The Curvy Chop is also a good step before the full Curvy Copter, as it lets you get used to the mechanics with fewer pieces in motion. For a child's first cube, a classic 3x3 or 2x2 is a better choice.
