WitEden DuGuXin Mixup Magic Cube is part of the Mixup series by WitEden. This manufacturer has been making mixups based on Oskar van Deventer's idea for years. This is not a cube for setting fast times. It's a puzzle for someone who already knows the regular 3x3 and wants something that stops looking like a cube after just a few moves. It measures approx. 65.5 mm and comes in the Black variant.

How does a Mixup work?

On a regular 3x3 cube, layers turn by 90 degrees, so an edge always stays an edge and a center stays a center. On a mixup, you can turn the middle layer by 45 degrees. Edges and centers can then swap places, and the whole puzzle changes shape. This one change means the familiar 3x3 patterns are no longer enough. How do you solve it?

Knowing a 3x3 method helps a lot, but it's only part of the solution. Mixups are usually solved in stages:

• first you restore the shape,
• then you put the centers and edges, which can get mixed up, in their places,
• finally you finish the puzzle in a way similar to a regular cube.

Along the way you'll run into situations that don't occur on a regular 3x3, so you'll need to learn a few extra algorithms or come up with your own. For many people, this is exactly what makes mixups so interesting.

Don't judge it like a speedcube. What matters here is figuring things out and understanding the mechanism, not TPS, corner cutting or magnet strength.

For cubers who can solve the 3x3 confidently and are looking for a new challenge, as well as for collectors of unusual puzzles. If you're buying a first cube for a child, it's better to start with a regular 3x3. The DuGuXin makes sense once the basic cube is no longer a challenge.
