WitEden Octahedral Mixup I Plus

WitEden Octahedral Mixup I Plus is a puzzle from the Octahedral Mixup series. It is a 3x3 Mixup cube reshaped into an octahedron, made of two pyramids joined at their bases. In this version the octahedron is regular, with no bulges or distortions. The body is black.

How Mixup works

On a classic 3x3 cube, centers and edges never swap places. On Mixup cubes you can turn the middle layer by 45°. Pieces that were centers can then move into edge positions, and vice versa. After a few of these moves it gets hard to tell which piece is which, and on top of the usual 3x3 cases you get new situations, including parity. The octahedral shape makes orientation even harder: the puzzle doesn't look like a cube, so once it's scrambled, it's easy to lose your point of reference.

What to expect

This is a puzzle for figuring things out, not a speedcubing cube. Mixup mechanisms are by nature less forgiving than modern 3x3 cubes. Corner cutting is limited and lockups during turns are normal, so it calls for calmer, more precise turning. The puzzle has no magnets and no tension adjustment. It helps to know how to solve a regular 3x3, and ideally a basic Mixup as well.

Who is it for?

For people who have already mastered the 3x3 and the basic Mixup and are looking for something that looks great on a shelf and gives you plenty to think about. It's also a great addition to a shape mod collection. For a child's first puzzle, it's better to choose something simpler.
